April 16th marked the anniversary of the birth of Charlie Chaplin.
I have always been an admirer of his. He was a brilliant filmmaker, actor and even musician. When my neighbor Mr. Biggs learned about my plan to write a web post about Chaplin’s birthday, he asked me if I had ever been to the magical place called Chaplin, Connecticut.
I had not.
So I set out to see it for myself.
Here is the letter I am now sending to the town hall.
KENNETH SNIPPS PO BOX 9411 FORESTVILLE CT 06011-9411
495 Phoenixville Road
Chaplin, CT 06235
Dear sir or madam,
My name is Kenneth Snipps and I need your help.
My neighbor Mr. Biggs told me all about your town. He said it is named after Charlie Chaplin, and everyone in the town dresses like The Little Tramp when they walk around. He said it was something I should really see.
So I entered the coordinates into my Global Positioning System and left the village of Forestville on foot. The distance is 47.3 miles and took me almost 16 hours to complete. So you can imagine my reaction when I discovered no one in Chaplin was dressed up like The Little Tramp.
And where is the 100 foot statue of Charlie Chaplin battling a dragon? I was told it graced the town square, did I miss it?
Please respond soon, I really want to see this stuff.
Thank you for reading and responding to my letter.
